  • 4 cups pitted sweet cherries (fresh or canned)
  • 1/2 cup cherry liqueur or juice
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
  4. Reduce speed and carefully mix in hot water until combined. Batter will be thin.
