Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Pour the melted butter into an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  5. Spoon the biscuit dough directly on top of the melted butter and gently spread it to the edges.
  6. Using a sharp knife, cut the unbaked dough into 9 squares to help with portioning later.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving warm.
