Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans with parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla.
Add the flour mixture in 3 additions, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with flour mixture. Mix just until combined.
Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
