Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

For the Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

For the Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tbsp milk, as needed

Instructions

Make the Dough

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add eggs, melted butter, sugar, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8 minutes, then let rise in a greased bowl, covered, until doubled—about 1 hour.

Prepare the Filling

  1. In a bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cocoa powder until well combined.

Assemble Rolls

  1. Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread the filling evenly, then sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  2. Tightly roll up the dough and slice into 12 even rolls.
  3. Place in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.

Bake and Frost

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden and set.
  2. Meanwhile, beat cream cheese and butter for frosting. Mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  3. Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve!
