Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup (240ml) cold buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut it into the dry ingredients until crumbly.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and gently stir until just combined. Don’t overmix.
  5. Use a large spoon or cookie scoop to drop mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden brown.
  7. Serve warm with butter or your favorite topping.
