Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse salt for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar and salt, then gradually mix in flour to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth, then let it rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Divide the dough into pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
  6. Dissolve baking soda in warm water and dip each pretzel before placing on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.
