Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Olive oil for greasing

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in sugar, salt, and bread flour. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into four equal pieces. Shape each into a round ball.
  6. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  8. Bake the bread bowls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  9. Cool slightly, then cut a circle out of the top and hollow out to create a bowl.
