Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 1/4 cup honey or sugar
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour the wine into a large saucepan.
  2. Add the orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
  3. Stir in the honey or sugar to sweeten.
  4. Warm the mixture over medium heat until just below simmering. Do not boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and let the wine mull for at least 15–20 minutes.
  6. Optional: Add brandy for an extra kick.
  7. Strain and serve warm in mugs or heatproof glasses.
