Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in salt and sugar. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes, then shape into a ball.
  4. Cut dough into 12 pieces. Roll each into a rope and twist into a pretzel shape.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Boil 4 cups of water and add baking soda. Dip each pretzel into the water for 30 seconds, then place on baking sheet.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
