Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1 egg

Filling

  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk (optional)

Instructions

Make the Dough

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add egg, salt, and softened butter. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead for about 8–10 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Make the Filling

  1. In a small pan over low heat, melt the butter.
  2. Add bread crumbs and brown sugar, and cook while stirring until combined and aromatic.
  3. Add a splash of milk if needed to loosen the mixture slightly. Set aside to cool.

Shape the Bread

  1. Divide the risen dough into 16 pieces. Roll each into a ball.
  2. Flatten each piece, spread a spoonful of filling, and roll like a log. Seal edges tightly.
  3. Place seam side down on a lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.

Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until lightly golden.
  3. Brush with melted butter right after baking for a soft, shiny finish.
