Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped almonds
  • 1 cup chopped candied citron or mixed candied fruit
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the eggs, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt gradually until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Fold in the chopped almonds and candied fruit.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until cookies are firm but not overly browned.
  8. Cool completely on wire racks. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
