Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, milk, butter, egg, and vanilla extract, and mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt, kneading until a soft dough forms.
  4. Let dough rise for 1 hour in a warm place until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out dough and cut into donut shapes. Let rest for 15 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry donuts for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Remove and drain on a paper towel. Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
