Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 12 small mozzarella balls (ciliegine)
  • Sliced black olives (for eyes)
  • Optional: Cooked spaghetti or toothpicks for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into 12 meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake meatballs for 15-18 minutes, or until fully cooked.
  5. While the meatballs bake, warm marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat.
  6. Place mozzarella balls on top of each cooked meatball to resemble an eyeball.
  7. Add sliced olives to the center of the cheese for the “pupils.”
  8. Serve warm with marinara sauce. Use cooked spaghetti or toothpicks to help them stand for presentation.
